I am no expert on Satanic or demonic attacks, but I have had my fair share of them already. In the Bible Jesus says that Satan comes to deceive and to destroy, especially the elect. You do not attack someone unless you perceive them to be a threat to you, or you want to gain my ground, resources and wealth. Hence, if Satan is or has attacked you or tried to deceive you, then he must perceive you as a threat and that therefore should be seen as something good. If you haven’t ever been attacked or tested or deceived by Satan, then you need to seriously start to exam your walk and relationship with God. It might just be that you are lukewarm, and that is probably one of the worst things that you can be as a Christian. What Jesus tells John to write to the angel of the church in Laodicea in Revelation 3:16 is quite damning, “So, because you are lukewarm – neither hot nor cold – I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” The idea that we can be lukewarm and that it’s okay and we’re still right with God, is in itself a lie and deception from Satan. It’s probably one of his favourite lies to use on the Church. The deception of complacency and isolation from God.

Satan has a few, time tested, favourite deceptions that he loves to attack the Church with. One of those is getting us to question our worth. He loves to come down on us and make ourselves question whether we are good enough. He loves to makes us think that we are useless and pathetic. He does this, because he knows that if he can get us to question our worth, then we are very likely to, of our own accord, start to question God, His love for us and His sovereignty. Satan is always trying to pit us against God in the hope that we will come off second best, deny God and spend the rest of eternity with him in Hell. What we constantly have to do when we come to a point in our lives where we start to question our worth, is to read what God says to us in the Bible what our worth is to Him. It’s not always easy to do this, but it is a vital spiritual reminder.

Satan also loves to attack us with a spirit of fear. This is probably the way he has attacked me the most. The thing with fear is that it limits the Holy Spirit’s ability to work in us and through us, because we are inhibited or incapacitated by our fear. The Bible, however states that we have not been given a spirit of fear, but one of boldness and courage. When countering an overwhelming spirit of fear I find that the best way to do this is by speaking Jesus’ name out loud (there truly is power in that name) and by reading the Bible. The Word of God is described as being “a sword”, we need to start treating it as such and wielding it in battle against our enemy, Satan.

So, when Satan tries to attack you and deceive you, rejoice. He’s attacking you, because as a Child of God he perceives you to be a major threat to him and his fallen kingdom. As you go into battle this week, remember to wield your sword.
