We live in a fallen world full of broke people. A world where Satan still roams free, terrorising its inhabitants. I like to read the news and keep up to date with current affairs around the world. but sometimes I wonder why I do it, because it breaks my heart. It seems like tragedies are the only news worthy items in this world, because that’s all I ever seem to read about – murders, rapes, wars. The main stories that come to mind right now are: Ukraine, the girls kidnapped in Nigeria, Oscar Pistorius to name a few.

I often wish there was something that I could do to stop all of the tragedies from happening. I know that baring the weight of all the world’s tragedies is not my responsibility, but I still wish I was able to. At least there is already One who bares the burdens, Jesus, and one day there will be no more burdens to bare.

But, while there still are tragedies on a rand scale occurring I find the verse Matthew 24:6 very encouraging, where Jesus says, “You will hear of wars and rumours of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Luke 21:9 also puts it well, “When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.”

We have this amazing reassurance from Jesus that we are not to worry or fear, because it is all a part of God’s bigger plan. We can rest assured, because of our belief in God and the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, when we die we will go to Heaven. And on the battlefield against Satan, He will prevail.

So, as we continue on in these, appearingly, uncertain days let us not forget that these things must happen. In the end Jesus will reign and we shall be rewarded for believing, trusting and serving Him.
